Bolt to Bavaria: A Weekend in München
Everyone we talked to before we left for Germany told us to make sure we visited Munich. In order to see for ourselves what all the fuss was about, we decided to venture to the Bavarian city last weekend.
In short, Munich was awesome! Unbeknownst to us, we arrived on a weekend when they were celebrating their 850 year anniversary- so there were a lot of people and a lot of events going on. Although it is a big city, the citizens of Munich have preserved their historic Bavarian culture. All weekend we were surprised to see a lot of people wearing traditional Bavarian clothes like lederhosen! We saw some impressive sights like the Olympic Park, Pinakothek der Moderne (Modern Art Museum), and the Englischer Garten. We also took a trip to Dachau, and saw first hand the remains of a WW2 concentration camp.
Although we could go into much more detail, they say that one picture speaks one thousand words; so here’s 6,000 of them:
Brandon and Nate riding the flight simulator at the Deutsche Museum. Unfortunately, the ability to do flips was falsely advertised!
Here's the video. Notice how we never actually make a full rotation around. We want our Euros back!
Brandon inside the freezing chamber that preserves the ice scuplture covering a Hydrogen powered BMW car found at the Pinakothek der Moderne.
Nate inside the surreal landscape created from over one million zip ties. Just another one of the amazing things found inside the Pinakothek der Moderne.
Inside BMW Welt, the massive new BMW museum and marketing center. Unfortunately, the actual museum didn't open for another week!
Nate and Brandon in the Englischer Gardens, an urban park even larger than New York City's Central Park.
A quick video from one of the many street celebrations we experienced in München.
A sunset shot of Shloß Nymphenburg, the once summer palace of Bavarian royalty.
Tschüss!
